Collections and Domestication of Foreign Judgments
The firm has represented both creditors and debtors in collection matters including unpaid invoices, promissory notes, bank checks, mortgages, and other financial obligations. Many debtors are acutely aware that foreign creditors often do not have the contacts or sophistication to pursue a debtor in a foreign country.
For international corporate and individual clients, we are able to assist in domesticating foreign judgments in the United States, United Kingdom and Germany, bringing and defending lawsuits to collect amounts owed for unpaid goods and services, and otherwise enforcing our clients’ rights under the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC), the Hague Convention on the International Sale of Goods (CISG), and multiple other laws which may apply.
Urban Thier Federer & Chinnery, P.A. routinely represents creditors and debtors in Florida courts. The firm serves individuals who are being pursued for collection matters and is able to assist these individuals through the use of various federal and state laws designed to protect debtors from improper creditor tactics. These laws include the federal Debt Collections Practices Act and the equivalent state Consumer Protection Act.
