Personal Injury Suffered by Foreign Nationals in Florida, Challenges and Issues

by | Jul 30, 2017 | Aachen, Firm News, London, Munich, Personal Injury and Wrongful Death |

International travel— whether it be for business or pleasure— presents anticipated and minor inconveniences to the visitor, such as exchanging currency, overcoming language barriers, becoming familiar with methods of travel, etc.

Over two million foreign nationals visit Florida every year, and while these travelers may have meticulously planned their travel itineraries and taken general safety precautions for themselves, their travel companions, and their belongings, few of them have reason to anticipate sustaining any personal injury or, worse, a fatality, during their time abroad.  This is especially true when their itinerary includes a visit to the “Happiest Place on Earth.”  Despite the intended fun to be had at any of Orlando’s 90+ tourist attractions— including theme parks, water parks, resorts, cruise ships, etc.— injuries do happen; perhaps it’s as minor as a sprained ankle, as dangerous as a severed limb, or the worst scenario: a death.

Not all foreign nationals’ injuries are sustained during visits to Orlando; many of these injuries occur in other parts of Florida, such as Miami, Tampa, St. Petersburg, Naples, Key West, or other Florida tourist destinations. The injuries typically result from auto accidents, slip-and-falls, assaults, faulty building structures, and other unfortunate occurrences.  If you are a foreign national who became the victim of such an incident during your time in Florida, or if you are the responsible party for the deceased, you may have a claim for compensation to recover medical expenses, lost income, and pain and suffering.  As a foreign national, however, it is unlikely that you are aware of how to initiate the process to file any claim.

Urban Thier & Federer, P.A. has extensive experience representing individuals who have been seriously injured or killed due to the negligence or fault of another, and the legal expertise and financial resources required to bring a sophisticated, serious personal injury or wrongful death case to a successful conclusion.

Visitors to the United States who are injured while in the United States face unique legal, geographical, cultural and other obstacles to secure justice and compensation.  This is even more so when the injured tourist or business traveler’s primary language is not English.  Such individuals routinely turn to Urban Thier & Federer, P.A. to assist them in attaining compensation for injuries incurred while visiting or vacationing in the United States.

What to do if injured while in the United States:
If you or someone traveling with you is hurt or killed while on vacation/holiday in the United States, you should immediately contact the authorities and appropriate medical professionals. You should also, as soon as practical, write down the names of all potential witnesses (bystanders, police, emergency responders, etc.) as well as the date, time and details of what happened.

It is also essential that you promptly contact an attorney, lawyer, barrister or solicitor of your own choice. Urban Thier & Federer, P.A. also encourages potential clients to feel free to interview more than one attorney to ensure that they select whichever law firm they believe will do the best job for their case. As a first step, we encourage you to fill out the Contact Us form to the right.

Please note that Urban Thier & Federer, P.A. does not represent you and cannot take any action on your behalf unless and until you enter into a formal written Legal Representation Agreement.
